Transition Planning 101 - Presentation by Emily Iland at the Vista Del Mar Conference
On November 18, 2010, Emily Iland spoke at the Vista Del Mar Adult Transition Conference called "Innovation, Intervention, Inspiration: A Journey of Hope". Below is her power point presentation covering the basic elements of a successful transition plan.
Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or need additional information.
I attempted to register for this conference with my teen. He is learning self advocacy, so this would have been great for us as a family. But I was told by the organizers it was meant for adults only. How can teens with Autism gain access to the excellent resources at this conference? Will it be held again and include teens?
Sarah: Your son was welcome to attend, so I'm sorry you received incorrect information. We will be having this conference again but do not yet have a date. Teenagers will definitely be allowed to register, so call you directly if you have any questions - our number is listed at the top of the page. Our Autism in Transition speaker series will be starting in February and we'll have more information very soon. Thanks so much!
I home school my son, Mars, and would love to meet other Autism families homeschooling or thinking about homeschooling teens. Coud you please consider me and Mars as volunteers who would be happy to share our experience and views for planning our future when you set up the next conference.
Could you possibly consider a weekend conference so teens attending conventional schools might find it convenient to come as well? Mars would be thrilled to meet other teens with Autism who are learning self advocacy.
It would be interesting if you caught up with some middle aged adults and asked about their life experiences. There are a number of blogs out there: www.journeyswithautism.com, http://journeythroughthecortex.blogspot.com, http://www.aspieteacher.com/, http://born2bme.wordpress.com/
